Utah Trip to Arches, Capital Reef and Meeting Levi
Sneaking away from work to visit family and a couple national parks.
Debbie and I wanted to visit our 3 month old grandson, Levi, in Utah, and we couldn’t resist stopping at a couple of national parks on the way.
We visited Capital Reef first, and found the park pretty empty. In fact we were the only guests at Capital Reef Resort!
It was nice to not have a crowd.
The sky was clear blue so we didn’t get a glorious sunset at Sunset Point, but the cliffs were very cool.
We noticed the deer were out and about too.
The next morning we set out on the scenic drive and found it closed for construction!
We made it to the Gifford House and photographed the classic barn at sunrise.
Here are a couple of different shots from that.
We explored where we could and found a few nice places to set up the camera.
The Fremont River had an endless flow of broken ice floating along with the current.
I set up a timelapse at this location and it turned out pretty well.
After shooting this river timelapse we left Capital Reef and headed for Moab and Arches National Park.
Arches had a few more people than Capital Reef, but not anything like during the season.
We also had snow on the distant mountains which made a really nice contrast with the red rock in the park.
When we got to the iconic “windows” in the park, we had them all to ourselves.
In the summer its just a stream of people up and back to these areas, but this time of year there were only a few visitors.
We had enough time to shoot a few images with no one else near the window!
We spent a few hours walking around Arches and had a nice dinner in Moab.
The next day we made the trip to Salt Lake City to see the real reason for our trip…Grandson Levi Sturm
We took some more family photos to document his 3-month birthday day.
I know I’m not a portrait photographer but I got a few nice shots of the family!
We had a great time visiting the “Little Man”, and we are looking forward to seeing him again soon.
See you in the next photoblog!
